This weekend saw two cup races in the US, after a bit of a quiet period.
First, on the east coast was Fight for air NY at one Penn Plaza. This 100 point race always draws strong climbers, and this year’s edition was no exception.
In first place for men was Alex Workman, winning yet again, and breaking the six minute mark with a 5:55 to join that exclusive club. In second was Stephen Marsalese, with a strong 7:12, and third was Matthew Davidson with a 7:28.
For the women, Charlotte’s Suzanne Bergen won, namaste-ing her way to the top with a 8:43. Close behind was Christina Mercado with a 8:50,and third was globetrotting Tricia O'Hara with an 8:52.
Over in LA, a 150 point event, there was some unfamiliar names on top, with Carter Jones winning the men’s climb with a very strong 8:17. Carter is a strong trail runner and cyclist, and it obviously translated to the stairs! Close behind was Ryan Ung with an 8:26, and rounding out the podium was Martin Pedersen with a 8:52. Finishing off the top 5 was Alberto Lopez and Jeff Dinkin, each with a 10:12.
On the women’s side, Cathee Hill won with a 12:57. Cindy Lupita Levine was second with a 13:19, and Maria Ruiz was just behind in third with a 13:20. Finishing off the top 5 was Renee Anderson with 13:38 and Madeleine Fontillas Ronk with a 13:41.
We congratulate every person who raced this weekend, and look forward to more great events ahead!
